Bergamo. Wonder is just a step away from EXPO.

Jacopo Negretti, also known as Palma il Vecchio (Serina, Bergamo, 1480ca.-Venezia 1528) painter, like many Bergamo native artists, moved to Venice where he trained at Giovanni Bellini’s school in sacred art and portraits.

He was also the author of highly sensual mythological tales. His career as an artist was entirely based in Venice, where he was apprentice to Giorgione and then Tiziano’s rival, specialising in particular themes (sacred conversation, portraits of women, mythological stories), displaying bright, splendid colours tending towards sensual and idealised female beauty; important examples of his art around Bergamo can be seen in the churches in Alzano Lombardo, Peghera in Val Taleggio and Serina.
