THE FORTRESS

THE FORTRESS

Description

From the funicular in the Upper Town, go up Sant'Eufemia hill to reach the Rocca complex, one of the Bergamasco people’s favourite places.

The short walk is well rewarded by the exceptional 360° panoramic view that you enjoy from the tower: in front of your eyes, in addition to the wonders of the Upper Town, you can see the Orobie Prealps and the entire plain, reaching as far as Milan’s skyline.

The Rocca, a fortress dating back to the 14th century, still bears evident traces of the military function it had over the centuries: take the walkway, discover the emergency door and enter the bomber's house, now home to the nineteenth century Museum.
The exhibition tells about the town's transformations between the old regime and the Italian unification. A Bergamo in the middle of the Risorgimento climate in which the stories of the 180 Bergamasco people from the Thousand who joined Garibaldi in the heroic undertaking are relived.
