The cemetery of Bergamo is a real open-air museum.

And with the arrival of spring, guided tours to the cemetery are back to explore the funerary art.

The Monumental Cemetery is the city’s main holy field and is located in the district of Borgo Palazzo.

Designed between 1896 and 1913 by architect Ernesto Pirovano and sculptor Ernesto Bazzarro, with his eclectic style you will find yourself fascinated in this place made of art.

Inside there are works of great importance from an architectural and artistic point of view, a prestigious heritage of twentieth century sculptures and architecture. The artists of the aediculae and monuments present are among the most relevant figures in the field of art of the last century. Attilio Nani, Trento Longaretti, Giacomo Manzù, Piero Brolis, Elia Fornoni and Luigi Angelini, just to name a few.

Take the opportunity to walk through the cemetery and discover the city’s history from the last century. During the guided tour, you will travel in time and you will be able to retrace the events of Bergamo and its inhabitants. In fact, the sculptures on the headstones and the portraits in the family chapels will show you the men and women who made the history of the city. The guided tours are divided into three different paths: Art, Architecture and Sepulchres by artists, depending on whether they concern works of art present in the chapels and on the tombs, architectural structures of sepulchral monuments or tombs of the famous masters.
