BERGAMO JAZZ FESTIVAL

Description

From the 17th to 24th March, the unmissable jazz music event returns.

Bergamo Jazz, the prestigious international festival, will animate Bergamo with numerous events in theatres, museums, streets and bars, dedicated to international artists and young talents.

A festival that continues to move, in fact, the events are located in various places around the city, not only at the Teatro Sociale and the Creberg Theater, but also in museums, such as the Cathedral Museum and the Accademia Carrara as well as a street parade. Playing around the streets of both the upper and lower town will be the P-Funking Band, a marching band that mixes jazz, funk, disco music, hip hop and soul, all accompanied by sparkling choreography.

50 years after the first edition, the 41st edition of the Bergamo Jazz Festival will be under the direction of American musician Dave Douglas for the fourth consecutive year.

For the first time this year, the Bergamo Jazz Festival is intertwined with another very popular musical event, the International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo. During the 55th edition of the latter, on Thursday 16th May, there will be an extraordinary event with Stefano Bollani, who will perform together with the Bologna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Estonian Kristjan Järvi. Members of Bergamo Jazz can take advantage of a reduction on the ticket price.

This prestigious music festival opens its doors to African music. Saturday 23rd one of the new queens of African music will be on stage, the singer, dancer and percussionist Dobet Gnahoré.

Gianluigi Trovesi will be a special guest at this year’s event, considered the greatest exponent of Bergamo jazz musicians, to whom an entire evening will be dedicated to coincide with his 75th birthday.

Once again, this year's event will include "Scintille di Jazz - Sparks of Jazz", the festival within the festival. Six concerts dedicated to new talents.

Even the city’s shop windows will be decorated for the event. "Bergamo Jazz in the window", has arrived at its third edition. Shopkeepers will compete to decorate their stores, with posters, brochures, merchandising items, shopping bags or t-shirts provided by the Bergamo Jazz organisation. The three most beautiful window displays will be rewarded with free tickets for the event and a plaque.
