SLOW WALK ALONG THE VENETIAN WALLS

Description

Starting from Porta S. Alessandro, the pleasant itinerary takes you along Viale delle Mura, meaning the ancient walkway.  You will reach Porta San Giacomo and then Porta Sant’Agostino, made in 1575to close the bastions that surround the ancient church and monastery, the so-called pincer.  

After having visited the San Michele al Pozzo Bianco Church, which features important frescoes by the Venetian painter, Lorenzo Lotto, a short panoramic walk will allow you to admire the fourth gate, dedicated to San Lorenzo, known today as Porta Garibaldi, because this is the gate the leader of the “Expedition of the Thousand” used to enter Bergamo in 1859.

 

Along the Viale delle Mura, in addition to admiring the well-preserved fort and the garden surrounding it, you can also visit the gunboats along the way, while admiring the amazing view of the Citta’ Bassa (Lower City) and the hills surrounding Bergamo.

At the end of the walk, you will have the possibility to taste some of the typical food products and local wines.
