Fratelli Longo

Fratelli Longo

Description

Not far from the most popular Fratelli Calvi Refuge, the Fratelli Longo Refuge is located at an altitude of 2026 m and is the right place for those who opt for tranquility, because it is a bit hidden from the busiest routes.

In the valley where it stands, once used only by shepherds, you can admire interesting Celtic-age rock carvings, particular floral essences and historical evidence of the iron mining, active until after World War II.

Starting from Carona, follow path 210 up to Lake Prato, then cross a wooden bridge and take path 224, a forest road that goes up the wonderful Monte Sasso Valley, and in two and a half hours you arrive at the mountain refuge.

Very popular with fishermen who can walk to the Diavolo Lake in just over 10 minutes from the property.

Starting from the refuge, you can get to Monte Alga along a not too demanding path, but you can also reach Monte Masoni, Pizzo Cigola, Cima Venina, Pizzo Rodenino or Pizzo del Diavolo.

It is the ideal place to observe the Orobie’s fauna, it is the home to many marmots and the most frequent visitors say that on some days you can see an eagle circling over the roof of the refuge.

The structure has 29 beds and 36 seats in the internal dining room.

Every year the Longo Trophy is organised, a traditional mountaineering competition in pairs.
