Built in 1919 as a tribute to the members of the CAI who fell in the Great War, the Coca Mountain Refuge is located in the municipality of Valbondione in the Seriara Valley, at an altitude of 1892m.
It stands at the entrance of the "Conca dei Giganti", where all the major Orobic mountains are found, such as Pizzo Coca, Redorta and Porola. It is a starting point for reaching Lake Coca or the Lupo glacier, the largest Orobic reserve, and a crossing point for those heading to Curò or Brunone.
To get to the refuge, the departure point is from the village of Sambughera in Valbondione. Coca can be seen from the start but requires a lot of breath and a leg work out to reach it because the climb to the refuge, along the path 301, lasts just over three hours and is not at all simple.
There are 70 beds and 90 seats, it has been run by a young family for about ten years, do not miss the delicious game dishes and porcini risotto.
