Sanctuary of La Forcella

Sanctuary of La Forcella

Description

Half-way between the village of Pradalunga and ancient stone quarries there is Forcella Sanctuary, whose name comes from the passage-way on the renowned old Mercatorum road.

During the plague of 1630 the inhabitants of Pradalunga made the vow to build a sanctuary on Forcella Hill, dedicated to Madonna della Neve, considered a sacred figure by the quarry-workers.

The vote-offerings with which the sanctuary is richly decorated is one of the religious notes that made the sanctuary so important to become a destination for pilgrimages: there are fifty vote offerings; some by unknown authors, many by not well known painters and others by artists more appreciated.
