Basella Sanctuary, near Urgnano, in the middle of Bergamo's lowland, was built to remind an apparition of the Madonna which took place in 1356.
Around 1460, Bartolomeo Colleoni provided with an enlargement of the church. to which a convent of Dominican friars was annexed; they were sent, in 1462, by Santo Stefano Monastery of Bergamo, committed to assistance and guardianship of the sanctuary.
