Eight days of marvellous performances for the 40th edition of the Bergamo Jazz Festival

A rich program of events for the 2018 instalment of the Bergamo Jazz Festival: eight days of passion dedicated to the supreme art of jazz music.

Big names on the international scene, jazz in the theatres, in bars and in some unmissable locations, sparks of jazz all over the city and on the streets, also at the cinema and in the form of photography. With its eclectic musicians, new talents and street parades, the Bergamo Jazz Festival is the perfect experience to combine love for music and love for travel.

Three important nights of concerts at the Creberg Theatre: Maceo Parker’s funky saxophone, Latin piano night with Chucho Valdes, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Chano Dominguez and exclusively, the 4 historical directors of the festival will perform together: Uri Caine on the piano together with trumpet players Dave Douglas, Paolo Fresu and Enrico Rava.
Other famous names on the jazz scene will resound through the magnificent Teatro Sociale in the upper city: Tri (o) kàla Marcotulli, Tavolazzi and Golino and their pop-tinted jazz, "Blues People" by Logan Richardson and Silvia Pérez Cruz, with her flamenco voice, elegant and sophisticated.
Don’t miss the concerts in novel locations: "Brockowitz" at the former San Lupo Oratory, Sclavis and Courtois at the Accademia Carrara, a solo performance by Claudio Fasoli at the former Hotel Commercio in Via Tasso, Jeremy Pelt’s trumpet quintet at the Sala di Porta Sant’Agostino and the incredible double bass player Linda May Han Oh at the auditorium in Piazza Libertà.
The streets of both the upper and lower town will enjoy music by the great travelling band Magicaboola Brass Band. This modern Marchin’ band, with its engaging sound, will fill the town’s streets with the sound of jazz. And after the festival everyone heads to Indisparte, a place to nourish both body and spirit with concerts by young talents and Jam Sessions.
This year the backdrop to the musical event is a photographic journey that represents the festival from 1969 to 2017. The exhibition will be held in the magnificent former Church of La Maddalena.
